Thursday Throwback: “Move This”

Happy Thursday Throwback / NFL Draft Day to everybody. I’ve been a casual Lions fan most of my twenty-five years, and Draft days typical elicit equal parts terror and optimism. The Charles Rogers’, Mike Williams’, and Joey Harringtons of drafts past force me to second guess even the surest of picks, the Suhs, the Johnsons, the Amukamaras? Nevertheless, the infusion of new talent—of new potential and revitalized hopes for sunnier tomorrows—is an undeniably exciting event, and I’ll certainly be glued to the TV for the first round and at least parts of the second. Anyhoo, immersed as I’ll soon be in vaguely homoerotic discussions of hip swivel and cone drills, I can’t think of a better Throwback than Technotronic’s 1992 hit, “Move This.” Perhaps best remembered for its use in a Revlon Ad featuring an in-her-prime Cindy Crawford, the choice bit of Eurodance climbed as high as #6 on the US Hot 100, eventually earning itself backtrack duties for a scene in arguably one of the nineties’ worst films, The Meteor Man. Spoiler: main character gets hit by space rock; gains super power of ability to…master the information in any book. Huh.

  1. Yeah, solid pick, I think. Represented better value than Amukamara, and an elite D line should mask some of the shortcomings elsewhere — see: Brandon Graham. Though I have to say all the high grades pundits are giving the pick make me a bit nervous….

  2. Don’t hate on Meteor Man. Robert Townsend went on to star in “The Parent ‘Hood,” an excellent sitcom.

  3. Ah….the prodigal son returns. I stand by my assertion, and from the looks of it, this “Parent ‘Hood” show is nothing but a bowdlerized “Family Matters.”
