So, suggestion/request. I’ve really taken to listening to older posts (the “backtracks” as I’ve affectionately dubbed them) while at the office—it’s a nice change of pace that really helps me escape that comfortable music glut I so often find myself in. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll NEVER grow tired of listening to [insert Pavement album], but sometimes a nudge to give that shoegaze record Matt swapped me last year another listen is just the push out the door I need. With this in mind, I’d like to propose both Matt and I start posting a weekly mixtape—no need for extended pontification on what’s included, just five or six songs that’ve been burning up our own personal airways. Ideally, these playlists will eventually find a more permanent home in the so-named sidebar Matt designed from the outset. I’m not yet schooled in the ways of said doohickey, though, so yeah, baby steps. Anywayz, playlist the first—news flash, I dig me some eighties college rock….
“Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken?” by Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, off Rattlesnakes (1984)
“Bel-Air” by The Church, off Of Skins And Heart (1982)
“Felicity” by Orange Juice, off You Can’t Hide Your Love Forever (1982)
“All for the Best” by Miracle Legion, off Surprise Surprise Surprise (1987)
“Up The Hill And Down The Slope” by The Loft, off Magpie Eyes 1982-1985 (2005)
This is a good idea. Maybe we each do every other week or something so that we have one per week? I think I’ve finally settled into my summer routine, so I’ll make that freakin player in the sidebar actually work as soon as possible.
