Know Your Goat

Big props to Matt for steering the blog away from the precipice that is Michigan football at the moment—that road leads to nothing but post-punk.  That being said, here’s a bit of apropos post-punk, “Goat of the West” by Comsat Angels. Not because I thought the Wolverines would win last Saturday—I was fully expecting a loss (a trouncing even). Not because I want Rich Rod gone—I think it is clear we can expect great things from this offense. Terrible! Yes—but great.  No, “Goat of the West” for the brief moment in the first quarter when, for the first time in a month, I actually felt confident that the nigh burgeoning groundwork of said Voldamortian shreddage had been made safe for at least a season more. “Goat of the West” for my Great Uncle not knowing the difference between tackling and clipping, but being thoroughly convinced Rodriguez would never win in the Big Ten. “Goat of the West” for the numerous Michigan fans I know who feel similarly and have virtually rooted against this team so as to affirm their own preconceived notions about Rodriguez, the spread, and what Michigan football is and should be all about.  It’s so funny, that I’m not laughing…

  1. You know, I was *this close* to posting something, but then I decided denial was the best option — What game? What coach? What idiots who are going to complain no matter what happens? To be honest, I’m not nearly as frustrated by the losses as I am by the reaction of the fan base. We suck.

Anyway, if I had posted, I probably would have gone the Mark Kozelek route. Cold/dark winters, breakups, and Michigan football. These are the reasons his music exists. This is a good one though, especially considering the whole champions of the west thing…

  2. Also, I’m going to assume that image was just the first hit on a Google search for “parts of a goat.”

  3. Search results for “sad goat wearing headphones” were lackluster to say the least — seriously, let’s get on that, people.
