Playlist: Big House Mix (Defense)

[Note: I’m testing out a new audio player that’ll let us post multiple tracks in a single player, so bear with me while I get all the kinks worked out…]

So apparently I’ve been charged with coming up with a playlist for the defensive side of things, which, like, thanks Scott. If you want to sum up this year’s unit in a single song, I don’t think it gets much better than “Like Like the the the Death” by Silver Jews — so much indifference never sounded so fitting.

However, I’m going a different route for this one. Ripping on an already down unit is too easy with all the love-stricken musicians out there writing songs called “Pitiful” and “Shame”, so this playlist summarizes my emotional arc from pre to post game: a building headache gives way to an apathetic desire to smash, followed by an angry rage, which eventually fizzles out into more apathy and a general disinterest toward sobriety.

Also, I don’t think you can find a better song title than “Ha Ha I’m Drowning” to summarize my attitude by the fourth quarter of most games.

  1. Well done, sir. You were, much like Michigan’s defensive coaching staff, tasked with spinning gold not even out of straw, but from underclass shoots of grass. But whereas they were able to realize only the (knock on wood) nadir of defensive competence, you have succeeded mightily. I particularly enjoy the blip-core of the opening cut, which resonates perfectly with how I imagine our young secondary sees the field most plays—something like a game of Asteroids four or five levels beyond your actual skill. Teardrop Explodes is another perfect inclusion; and +1 for the band’s name, in and of itself. Listening I couldn’t help recalling McGloin going all grit-core on us during the PSU game. So thanks for that….
