I swear Scott and I will get back to this blogging thing at some point soon. Until then, your thoughts are required. Now I know most of our readership isn’t quite to this point in their lives yet, but I need opinions nonetheless. 30 songs to hear before you’re 30. What’ya got?
Also, did you know Desperate Housewives is still on the air? I know, right.
So are we going to focus on any particular time frame/ genre? I may end up going all pink floyd up in here. And my other contribution comin’ in at number 30 just has to be “Lovers Spit” (the Bee Hives version) BSS. There is a start.
Ah yes, BSS. I’m split between “Lover’s Spit” and “Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl”. I’m leaning toward the latter but I could be convinced otherwise…
But ya, I’ll probably stick to 80’s – Present (last 30 years), one song per band (or two in the case of Pavement), and try to cover as many genres as possible. So, 30 before 30 in the last 30 by 30< .i>.
Choosing tracks rather than records makes this terribly difficult, even w/ the “80s onward” stipulation. Still, part 1 of 3 was pretty automatic for me….
“Left of the Dial” – The Replacements
“Car” – Built to Spill
“Gold Soundz” – Pavement
“Hey” – The Pixies
“Fake Plastic Trees” – Radiohead
“Radio Free Europe” – REM
“Web in Front” – Archers of Loaf
“Midnight in a Perfect World” – DJ Shadow
“Only Shallow” – My Bloody Valentine
“Just Like Honey” – The Jesus and Mary Chain
Can Yankee Hotel Foxtrot count as one song?
First Breath After Coma- Explosions
Lost Cause- Beck
Wolf Like Me(plz?)
I dont know how to choose a Pinback song……..or Pearl Jam……. Im bad at this
Someone else make decisions
Ok going with Syracuse for Pinback, i jus luh dat
Wow Calth and I may just be brothers. YHF definitely gets a song (I was thinking “I am trying to break your heart” but not sure yet). “First Breath After Coma”, “Lost Cause”, and “Wolf Like Me” are definitely on there as well. Though I’m thinking about using “Loro” for Pinback. “Penelope” is also under consideration, though “Syracuse” is up there as well.
As for Scott’s list, “Web In Front”, “Left Of the Dial”, “Gold Soundz”, and “Hey” are automatics. My dilemma with BTS (as should be the case with all good bands) — “Car” vs “Carry The Zero” vs “Made-up Dreams” vs “Kicked It in the sun”. Help.
no fortress for pinback?…
“I am trying to break your heart” would be a solid pick. BTS is equally hard for me, i like “made up dreams” over “kicked it in the sun” but i would also throw “broken chairs” into the mix, i would definitely second “car” if you are really having trouble makin ur mind up.
saeglopur
Sigur Ros is another difficult one — “Saeglopur”, “Viorar vel til loftarasa”, “Olsen Olsen”, “Staralfur”, “Untitled 1″, “Untitled 4″, “Untitled 8″, and “Hoppipolla” could all easily be on there. I lean toward something from the first album but that’s not definite.
Also, Modest Mouse. “Heart Cooks Brain”, “Trailer Trash”, “Doin’ The Cockroach”, “Coyboy Dan”, “3rd Planet”, “Other People’s Lives”…
other peoples lives.
this whole thing seems absurdly easy until you actually start to try to decide….
Sold! To the nice rich man! – Danielson Family
Though I agree with YHF, im a sucker for “Way over yonder…” from Mermaid Ave…
A true story of a story of true love – The Books
